Waste to Water

Food waste is constantly being produced and stored in landfills which produce large amounts of harmful greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane. We will focus on developing an anaerobic digestion process which will reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced by food decomposition.

Another issue faced in modern society is the presence of heavy metal contamination in drinking water. We seek to develop an enzyme via recombinant DNA technology that will reduce and precipitate such ions and render drinking water more safe.
